Herbs and Growing: An Intrinsic Part of Human Lives

There are various easy methods to approach herbs and growing them. Herbs have been around probably since the earth began. Growing them in most gardens is persistently practiced around the globe.
The herbs were the main ingredients for most traditional medicinal practices in most cultures around the world. Their purposes are far-reaching nowadays. They could be used to adorn gardens and enhance its aesthetic value. They could be crushed and the essential oils they produce are widely accepted for aromatherapies. They are main natural culinary seasonings for all cuisines, Asian, Mediterranean and European.
Herb growing in ancient times
The Chinese have wide-ranging herbology that enlists fifty fundamental herbs. These herbs are combined to produce all-natural medicines. This wide-ranging practice has been brought about by the Chinese legendary ruler Shennong. His name means the “Divine Farmer” because the Chinese people believed that his discoveries of herbs and their medicinal qualities have taught them how to cultivate the proper herbs for their usage. Ginger, ginseng, peony and licorice are a few of the most famous herbs used in traditional Chinese medicine currently available to all countries where Chinese communities dwell.
India’s traditional medicine Ayurveda has more than thirty herbs included in most of their medicinal concoctions. These concoctions were made from different approaches of using the herbs, namely fresh juice extraction, powdering, crushing and cooking in butter or oil. This Ayurvedic traditional medicine is also used in current healthy-living practices like in yoga and massages.
For most cultures, hundreds of herbs and their cultivars are used to season food or as the main ingredient for enhancing an individual’s physical and spiritual health. Most herbs are believed to enhance sexual potency, virility, memory, and agility. Varieties of basil are labeled holy due to the peoples’ belief of its extraordinary healing powers.
Most European and Asian cultures have used herbs to represent supernatural beliefs and sanctity. The Greeks have several references of herbs to their mythological creatures. Mint was once in the form of the nymph Menthe. The yarrow is said to be used for calling on the forces of evil, which one can use to cast a curse against enemies. Conversely, the Chinese believed that the yarrow could be an important herb to predict the future due to the herb’s powers to improve eyesight and increase intelligence.
Herb growing in current times
There are currently more than twelve approaches to growing different herbs. Putting different types of herbs in varied garden styles and designs is presently one of the most prevalent practices in growing and sustaining vegetation.
Commercial growing of herbs gave way to popularizing consumption of herbs in all dishes. There are various methods in herb production. Drying, grounding and freezing are the top three ways herbs get into commercial and gourmet markets. In the US alone, around four tons of basil could be yielded per acre yearly.
Wherever in the world, herbs are really a vital part of people’s lives. Herbs and growing them are really important to sustain life with rich flavors, smells and other health benefits.
