You are aware of the nutritional and health benefits that you get from eating natural and fresh foods, and you do not want to have to stop gardening your own herbs. Do not dismay! During the winter, you can easily bring in your herb garden. You can plant a windowsill garden right in your kitchen! You can have fresh herbs all winter long, by doing this.

As the leaves are falling and the beautiful colors of gold, red, marroon and browns fill your yard, your home herb garden is call you. This time of the year, when the weather is not too hot your herb garden is calling for attention.
Now is the time to capture the seeds from your blooming herbs. You can confine the seeds by placing a paper bag over the blooms. Put your hand around the bag and grab the stem. Trim the stem to release the bag. To release the seeds from the pod, rub the bag. Now you can put them in containers for storing until planting. I put them in envelopes with labels and the envelopes go into a shoe box.
Some people dry herbs by tying a few sprigs together and hanging them up to dry. The location should also be dark as sun light dries the oils …

You have planted the herbs and watched them grow and flourish. They are extremely useful in so many ways. However, you will also know that for a successful home herb garden, there is a bit of work needed.
In order to use the herbs you will need to harvest them first and timing is a huge factor. Did you know that the essential oils in the herbs can be leeched away by the wind and heat?. You should choose a calm and dry morning during midsummer to harvest your herbs. Fewer oils are produced by the herb on extremely wet days.
